Playground day

As Janna was to have some time to her self at the hotel hamam with sauna and beauty treatments, me and the kids set of to town for a day at the playgrounds. One could think the kids would run tired of playing after a few hours, but no. They love climbing up and down. Riding the sea saw. Sliding down slides. Taking turns on the roundabout. All but for a break to look at the half sunken ship and eating corn on the cobb we spent the day at the playground. After their bed time we have, as a Norwegian tradition, prepared the Christmas calender. Each gets a gift every 4th day.

Our plans a head are to pick up Jannas uncle Frode in Kas on thursday and sail on towards Finike.

If any one wants to send a Christmas card to us this is the adress:

SY La Familia
Finike Marina
Kale Mahallesi. Şerbetçi Bulvari no 61

TURKEY

We are here.

We are back in civilisation after 14 days of slow life in the medievel landscapes of southern Göçek. The days have had simple rutines. Early breakfast, short walk, lunch, lego buliding time,  long walk with fruitstop, dinner, drawing, doing dishes by hand, reading, look at the stars and bedtime. Meditative in some kind of way. Slow. Bordering to boring. Challenging us to guestion whether this is right. At the same time right on the spot to enjoy time with Ingrid, Edvard and each other. Time to explore secret caves where pirates can hide. Time to take walks at the pace of a two year old. Still, are we on the right track? (tack as a sailor could say.)

Beeing out travelling is beeing away from home. Away from our house, away from our wellknown sunday walks, away from our local foodshop. Away from family, friends, collegues and neighbours, away from the rutines of everyday life. No support from kindergarden in raising the kids. No newspapers. So like parents talking about their kids after they have gone to bed we talk lots about life and people at home. Just as much as we contemplate weathetforecasts and anchour holding the life of home is with us here.

The First of advent today and less than a month to Christmas. It suites us to be thinking of those at home. And those no longer home.

We are also happy for the warm showers at the Yacht Classic Hotel pier in Fethiye where we are moored.

Generally warm places make us happy! Check Janna in front of the fireplace celebrating her birthday! And catching her first fish!

Kapi creek waiting for weather.

Its autumn and colder now. We are waiting for the first winter storm. People around the bays have talked about it for a week. Now it finally seems to be here. On the other side of the hill the wind is strong. We walked up to the top earlier as the sun went down. The sea is building up from the south east. The forecast is rain and thunderstorms for the next five days. Fortunately this bay is very well protected and there is hardy a ripple on the water here. But the roaring sea, the wind through trees reminds us of what lies between us and Finike. So quite likely Kapi creek is where we will be for the next few days. If we don't end up like the french sailor living in the bay. He has been here for 37 years.

Göçek municipal marina.

After a week of anchouring we are back in port. Göçek has its market on Sundays so thats on the plan for today. The whole family are eating lots of mandarins and more suprisingly, pomme  granat. The bitter sour sweet taste has grown on us all.

Pictures from Seagull bay (well the rooster that woke us up at 05 everyday morning could easily of given name to the bay.) Also pictures of olives been mashed to make olive oil. And from a nearby hill looking south towards Őlüdeniz and the seven capes. Last picture from the panncake at the market. Served with tea and fresh OJ.

Anchoured with a long line ashore.

We are anchoured with a long line ashore in Seagull bay, Skopea Limani. We have spent the last few days in this area south of Göçek. There has been little wind but in the afternoon there is a nice seabreece. Many of the small bays here have simple restaurants serving turkish dishes. Most of them are closed now that the sailing season has ended. There are still other boats around but here in Seagull bay we are alone. Except for the old fisherman and his wife living in a tiny wood house next to the closed restaurant where the owner also is living. No electricity or running water in the houses. Earlier another family unloaded big sacks of olives from their donkey. It feels like going ashore means travelling back in time. The fishermanns wife preparing food over the open fireplace. We bought fish from the fisherman and prepaired it onboard. As the dark of night came there was more light shining from La Familia than from the houses in Seagull bay.

Braveheart Edvard

In Őlüdeniz there is a high montain from which one can paraglide. We saw the paragliders high up in the sky as we sailed in through the bay.

The next day we all wanted to fly. Janna definitely. Edvard without a doubt. Is he really old enough? During this trip and I guess through his life he has been given opportunity to explore . Testing his skills, judgement and limits. And we with him.  He wanted to fly.

The bus set off for the mountain top. 1960 meters above sea level. Edvard fell asleep during the 25 min drive. Janna at his side. Ingrid and I waiting on the beach promenade.

At the top Edvard and his pilot Mohammed were first off the ledge. Janna a few minutes later. He was flying. He loved it. After 25 min in the air he landed smothely on the promenade. He wanted to do it again. Not scared for a second. He flew.

It was my turn an hour later. The drive up was scary. The mountain side steep. Fantastic view from the summit. I still imagined paragliding being something dreamlike. More like the flight of a butterfly than a fighterjet. That was before takeoff. The wind was strong and as the shute filled with air I realised I was in for a new experience.

Breathtaking is an understatement. We flew high up. Above the clounds. It was out of my comfortzone. At the same time insanely beatiful. The sea calm and bathing in sun. The boat safely moored far below. Yes the boat seemed like the safest place on earth. North I saw the turkish coastline and Fethiye were we are now. Motor yacht A was there. I did not look down. It was hard to belive my son had been through all this and not felt a twitch of fear. Further down I enjoyed the birds view. With my feet on the ground I gave my pilot a big hug. It had been a memorable day.

Interior design styling tips!

Like all bloggs with a bit of class this one too will have its share with interior tips.

The nights have been colder, the evenings dark er and the nights longer. So to brighten things up in the forepeak wanted something stylish. When we came a cross this blanket at the Saturday market in Finekie we were sold. Its  huge. 220 by 240 so it often keeps all four of us warm!

Öludeniz and more.

After Kastellorizo we anchoured outside Kas for provisions. We are now anchoured with a long line ashore by the beach in Öludeniz. The water is colder and very clear and the sun still hot. We have had some super days lately and life with the children and for the children is magical.

Plans change. So now we are not heading for Greece but will sail up the turkish coast and some time in december return to Finekie for an over wintering of about three months. Jannas uncle is flying down to Antalya the 21st of november and will join us for a week of sailing. Edvard is very much looking forward to the visit. He talks alot about home and the people there.

We said good bye to our friends on S/V Aries at Kas but have planned to meet up again some here along the coast.

Mandraki Bay.

We are heading to the west along the turkish coast. Our aim is to be in Crete at the end of november. The first greek island coming from the east is Castellorizo. This is the first island which refugees cross over to from Turkey.

The first day here we, like good norwegians climbed the nearby mountain. We have also made friends with a sailing family from Belarus that as the only other boat are anchoured in Mandraki Bay.

Halloween time!

There is no getting away from Halloween! Even in a remote corner of Turkey it is party time this day! Fantastically organised by s/v Element we all enjoyed it!

November 1st.

My birthday. Our departure from Finekie.
In only a few days we became very fond of this friendly port. During the winter its the home for many foregin sailors. But for the time beeing not for us. That means saying goodbye to some good people. Among others a canadian family living onboard the catamaran s/v Element. We hope our courses will cross some time. A swedish couple,  Paul and Kjerstin, had also made real their dreams of circumnavigation in a 53 ft Amell called s/v Kepra. Happy sailing to them.

Kekova.
We are moored for the night at a great restaurant at the foot of a small mountain with a castle at the top. One other boat here. It makes for a special atmosphere and at the end of the day turning 39 was not so bad.
